A growing fulfilment and distribution business has invested more than £1.5 million to relocate to a new, bigger premises.
Halcion Express has transferred all of its operations from its former site at Parkhouse Industrial Estate to a unit at Dalewood Road, on Lymedale Business Park in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire.
The 20,000 square-foot unit, which is set on a 1.3 acre site, has been vacant since EE Mobile moved out of the building.
Now Halcion has spent around £100,000 refurbishing the building – and transform it into its new base.
Managing director at Halcion, Andrew Corrie, said: “We had been looking for a bigger building for about six years as we started to focus on the storage and fulfilment side of the business. It got to the point where we were having to rent off-site storage space from third parties as the business grew.
“But we couldn’t find anywhere suitable – until now.”
Halcion was founded by the late Jack Corrie in the seventies under its original name of Halcion Haulage, the company then specialised in transporting raw materials across the UK – everything from sand to coal and grains.
But when Andrew joined the business in 1995, Halcion Express was born.
Now the family-run company – which boasts a 22-strong workforce – distributes products such as automotive parts, finished goods and garden equipment throughout the UK & Europe as part of The Pallet Network.
It has also evolved to offer bespoke storage/fulfilment and dedicated vehicle solutions for its customers, which include blue chip clients such as Asda, Aldi, Tesco, Iceland, John Lewis, Lakeland and Bentley.
Andrew added: “The new site is suitable for our needs and is large enough for us to expand into as we continue to grow.
“Our aim over the next 12 to 18 months will be to grow organically and increase our fulfilment and distribution operations.”
Festival Park-based property management company Harris Lamb acted on behalf of Chancerygate to secure the sale of Halcion’s new building.
Andrew Groves, from Harris Lamb, said: “It has been about nine or 10 years since industrial and commercial buildings like this one have been speculatively built, but in the last couple of years as the economy has picked up, there has been an increase in enquiries which means the availability of good, modern, quality industrial buildings like this has diminished.
“So we are delighted to have sold this building to Halcion Express.”
